What We Do
Advocacy
Our Advocacy Chair is responsible for informing the community about and supporting current movements for affordable housing in the Bay Area, California, and across the US.
Education
Habitat Homework Help
The Education Chairs teach a class about affordable housing at UC Berkeley to raise awareness about the issue. If you want to learn more about the housing crisis and how it could be addressed, please join or audit the class.
Every weekend, we help children of Habitat families with their homework. No special knowledge is required and all are welcome to help out!
Local
Habitat believes in building communities around affordable housing, so our local chairs organize a variety of volunteer events throughout East Bay.
These range from beach cleanups, garden builds at Habitat sites, creek restorations, and so much more!
Special Events
Research
In the fall, our special event coordinators put on CARE, or Creating Art for Refugee Empowerment to raise money for 1951, an organization that helps refugees settle into life in the Bay Area.
We do data analysis and fundraising research projects for Habitat International.
Build
Collegiate Challenge
Fundraising
Our Build Coordinators work with Habitat East Bay to build affordable housing, staff Restores, and build playhouses for Habitat families.
This past semester (Fall 2021), we helped build tiny homes in Oakland with YSA (Youth Spirit Artworks) for homeless and low-income youth.
The Collegiate Challenge Coordinator takes a group of students on a week long trip to volunteer at a Habitat site.
This past semester (Fall 2021), we teamed up with Habitat Monterey Bay to work on a 11-home build in Santa Cruz County.
The Fundraising Chairs raise money to fund all of Cal Habitat’s service projects through concessions stands at football, basketball, and baseball games.
Soup
The Soup Kitchen Coordinator organizes volunteer events with institutions that provide meals to the homeless population in the Berkeley.
This past semester, we partnered with Berkeley Hillel during their weekly "Challah for Hunger" events to help raise funds for Swipe Out Hunger and Berkeley Food Pantry.
